Rick C. has been playing music since the early age of 3. He began with playing the drums and at age 7 he learned piano well enough to play at his local church. Throughout high school he was a part of the school drumline and marching band, playing instruments such as snare, bass, and tenors. After high school he attended Berklee college of music (Boston, MA) where he graduated with a diploma in songwriting and guitar as a principal instrument.
After college he moved to Nashville to play and tour with various bands. He played many nights in the downtown Nashville music scene where many club musicians play shifts of 4 hour gigs for tourists from all over the world. “That was a great opportunity to learn a wide repertoire of songs and build your chops”. After a couple years he moved back home to Houston and became active in the music scene there. In 2018 he received the award of “instrumentalist of the year” from the Country Music Association of Texas.
Rick has been teaching guitar for over 10 years both online and in person. He his versatile with many styles of teaching and learning such as standard music notation, TAB, and the nashville number system. He focuses on many genres such as blues, rock, country and jazz. He has experience working with students from all ages as young as 5. He believes learning an instrument should be fun and enjoyable, everyone has different goals and whether its tackling a complicated piece or learning a simple chord he is motivated to help. Rick is also proficient at teaching drums, bass and intermediate piano.
