Xavier B.
Xavier, born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, began his journey with the guitar at the age of 11. In 2006, his passion for music led him to pursue a degree in Music Education at the Cecilio Acosta Catholic University (UNICA). There, he immersed himself in a world of musical knowledge, exploring subjects such as harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, instrumentation, and vocal music. At the same time, he deepened his connection with the guitar, shaping his musical identity.
After graduating in 2012, Xavier began teaching classical guitar at “La Estancia,” a cultural center where he introduced students to the fundamentals of the instrument. He continued in this role for two years before joining the renowned Venezuelan music program, "El Sistema," in its folk music division. This marked a pivotal point in his career, as he collaborated with multi-instrumentalist educators who inspired him to learn the Venezuelan cuatro (a four-string guitar) and later the mandolin. These instruments became integral to his musical repertoire, with the mandolin serving as his steadfast companion when he left Venezuela in 2019.
During his tenure with El Sistema, Xavier took on the role of conductor for a folk music orchestra, where he not only led performances but also arranged music. With limited orchestral arrangements for traditional folk songs, he became the de facto arranger, crafting unique pieces for his ensemble.
Xavier's ambition pushed him further, and he pursued a master’s degree in Musical Composition at UNICA. Around this time, he also discovered a passion for the lap steel guitar and slide guitar, adding to his growing arsenal of instruments. This period coincided with a significant life event—the birth of his first son, Dante—which prompted a shift in his professional focus. Recognizing the financial potential of remote work, he transitioned from teaching to a career in music production.
Through the freelancing platform Fiverr, Xavier established himself as a session musician, arranger, and producer. His work involved a broad spectrum of projects for clients worldwide, allowing him to embrace various musical styles and challenges. From playing electric and acoustic guitars to performing on the mandolin, cuatro, ukulele, and providing backing vocals, his versatility became his trademark. Some days, he recreated Disney songs with a 90s alternative twist; other days, he composed and performed original anthems in fictional languages for video games. Each project presented a new and exciting opportunity, enriching his skills and artistic vision.
Xavier’s journey reflects a dedication to continuous learning, adaptability, and a profound love for music. Whether teaching, performing, or producing, he has embraced every stage of his career with passion and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on the musical landscapes he has touched.
