Emma W.

Emma W., originally from northern Illinois, is a recent graduate of Lee University where she received her bachelor's in piano performance. Emma began teaching piano lessons in 2017 and is passionate about music education.  She has also served as class piano tutor and supplemental instruction leader at Lee University.  She studied piano under the direction of Joong-Han Jung, Muen Wei, and Merle Langs.  Emma has participated in several competitions and her awards include soloist for the 2022 Lee University Concerto Competition, 1st place in the Senior Division of the Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition (2014), and 2nd place Senior Division of the Chopin Competition in Milwaukee, WI (2017).  Emma has participated in numerous masterclasses most recently under the direction of Roman Rabinovich, Ilya Yakushev, and collaborative pianist, Elvia Puccinelli.  Recent recitals include her senior recital in April 2022, junior recital in November 2020, and a joint recital with Soyoung Lim, in 2019.  She was the pianist for First Congregational Church in Pecatonica, IL (2016-2018) and has served as a student accompanist at Lee University since 2019.  Emma also plays cello and was principal cellist for the Lee University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Strings.  Emma begins her studies at Rice University this fall where she plans to earn a master's degree in musicology.
